Aino Tobacco is a relatively new brand that launched in late 2021. However, the manufacturer is far from unknown. Behind Aino Tobacco is Shanti, a wholesaler from Osnabrück, who has previously produced several tobacco brands. So, there's a lot of know-how behind this newcomer! This expertise is likely why AINO has already become one of the top brands for hookah tobacco today. Some of the flavors have quickly become new favorites among hookah enthusiasts. Bestsellers include flavors like Black Ice and OHA.
According to the manufacturer, Aino's hookah tobacco is unique, and we think there's some truth to that! Firstly, the manufacturer impresses with high-quality products, and secondly, the various flavors offer intense and extraordinary taste experiences. Besides the flavor, Aino tobacco also excels in its excellent smoke production and heat resistance.
At the 2023 Hookah Trade Show in Frankfurt, Aino presented its first Dark Blend tobacco, which is based on a stronger Burley tobacco. Previously, the brand only used Virginia tobacco blends. In late September 2024, the Osnabrück-based producer also launched AINO STRONG, a revised and much stronger version of the AINO Burley tobacco blends.
There are now a total of 27 flavors from AINO. The portfolio has developed beautifully over the last few years, and there should be something for every taste. Out of these, 18 flavors are from the Virginia series, and 9 from the Dark series.

Aino doesn’t do things halfway. The philosophy of the Osnabrück producer is to put a lot of care into the development of a product before it reaches the public. That’s why it doesn’t surprise us that it took almost three years to adapt their popular Virginia blends into Dark Blend.
According to the manufacturer, almost two years were spent solely on the development of the Burley base tobacco, and you can definitely taste that! Before the release of the AINO Dark line, there were almost only Dark Blend options from Russian manufacturers available in Germany, such as Darkside Tobacco or Blackburn. Therefore, AINO was particularly keen on bringing a worthy representative of this genre to the market.
The aromatic Dark Blend from AINO combines the kick of a medium nicotine level with a pleasantly smooth smoking experience. That means, even if you're used to milder tobacco, a bowl of Aino Dark Tobacco won’t knock you out, but you will definitely feel the higher nicotine level.
In our opinion, it’s an ideal dark hookah tobacco to dive into the world of Dark Blends!
Under the Dark Blend series, AINO has released several new flavors that are perfectly matched to the new Burley mixture. The two most popular flavors, OHA and Black Ice, have also been adapted to the Dark Blend base. Aino's selection of Burley tobacco flavors includes the following:
The manufacturer made it a point to authentically adapt the two flavors of the original Virginia blends to the new, stronger tobacco type, but these had to undergo critical testing. They didn’t want to disappoint their fanbase with a half-hearted imitation of the originals.
The new Burley base made it necessary, for example, for the Ice from the Black Ice blend to be removed, as it didn’t blend well with the Dark Blend version. Therefore, the Dark version of Black Ice is now “only” an intense and authentic blackberry flavor called Aino Black, which tastes fantastic and is also well-received by our customers.
At the community's request, AINO developed an even stronger Dark Blend product line called AINO STRONG. As we’ve come to expect from the manufacturer, this new Burley blend was thoroughly revised until it harmonized perfectly with the brand's flavors and was smooth to smoke. The result is a tobacco that performs well in both multi-hole bowls and Phunnels, provides an intense taste experience, and is comparable in strength to tobacco from MustH or Blackburn. Overall, the new AINO STRONG offers a complete flavor experience that should be a "Great Match" for advanced users and long-time Dark Blend enthusiasts.
Most of our customers find Aino Black Ice or Aino Oha to be the best of the Virginia flavors, and we share that opinion! This is probably why AINO has directly adapted these flavors into all new tobacco varieties.
Black Ice is an intense blackberry tobacco with a cool note. This blend is also popular with big Shisha content creators like Marvin from ShishaWG or Doelid!
Aino Oha tastes like Brazilian Guava, and we think it’s a very unique flavor. Especially if you’ve been smoking for a while and want something different from your usual favorites, OHA from Aino is an excellent choice!
But we also recommend all the other Virginia flavors of the brand. If you like the fruit or flavor that the tobacco is based on, then the likelihood of the tobacco tasting great to you is very high, because Aino really nails the flavors!
Most of our customers love the Aino Dark Great Frut and the Aino Dark Oha.
Great Frut is an intense and bold grapefruit tobacco, and Dark Oha combines the intense fruity flavor of Brazilian Guava with the cool freshness of Ice. These blends are also popular with big Shisha content creators like Marvin from ShishaWG or Doelid!
We think the Aino Dark Black Oha tobacco is a very unique flavor. If you've been smoking for a long time and are looking for a change from your favorite blends, Dark OHA from Aino is a great choice!
But we also recommend all other varieties from the brand. If you’re already familiar with Aino’s Virginia blends, you’ll likely enjoy their Dark Tobacco as well.
Aino tobacco is designed for a Phunnel bowl with a Smokebox. According to the manufacturer, this setup provides the best results with their tobacco. We can confirm this from our own experience.
For the Virginia tobacco of the brand, you can also smoke it in a classic setup with a clay bowl and a heat management device (HMD). The flavor and smoke development will be a bit less intense in this setup.
For the Burley tobacco, we recommend avoiding the clay bowl with HMD combination. If you want to use a different setup, we suggest a multi-hole bowl with an HMD. This setup will make the nicotine feel stronger and the tobacco a bit more intense. It doesn't matter whether the HMD is made of aluminum or stainless steel.

Currently, there are 21 flavors from AINO. Out of these, 15 are based on Virginia tobacco and 6 on Burley tobacco. According to the manufacturer, new flavors are continuously being developed!
In our opinion: YES! We’ve extensively tested the tobacco ourselves and are very impressed with AINO hookah tobacco.
AINO is made in Germany, specifically in Osnabrück! In this production facility, strict hygiene and cleanliness are maintained, and only the best ingredients are used.
Unfortunately, we can’t say exactly when new flavors will be released. However, the manufacturer always informs customers in advance through their own AINO Instagram profile!
